A knack for open field tackling and the speed to track down any wideout or running back in the state, Johns Creek’s talented Micah Gay is going to see a lot of attention during his senior season this fall.
Last year, 247Sports CFB writer and GMTM evaluator Ed O’Brien broke down Gay’s 2020 film, which included just about everything a college recruiter is looking for in a prospect. The 6-foot linebacker from Georgia isn’t afraid to drop back to play Safety or Nickelback.
“A Middle linebacker that's able to play sideline to sideline,” O’Brien wrote after evaluating the film from Gay’s junior season. You can view the film Micah submitted HERE.
O’Brien is the founder of All-State Preps, an exposure camp that helps top recruits gain some notoriety each summer. He found Gay’s film through his interactive Evaluation Page on GMTM.
The All State Preps Evaluation Page offers high school football prospects an opportunity to be broken down by established college football scouts. Gay submitted his film of October 2020 and was able to leverage the feedback along with his 3-star ranking.
“Once Micah diagnoses a run play, he quickly finds the ball and shuts it down.” O’Brien continued, calling to mind Gay’s ability to fill gaps and win each battle against a running back.
The strength and speed hasn't gone overlooked by college coaches. In the summer of 2021, Gay received a lot of attention from Tennessee-Chattanooga and Akron, among other teams looking for versatile talent in the secondary.
Not only does Gay have an ability to snuff out run plays but the track and field star can also take on Offensive Linemen and fight to make tackles. In his GMTM evaluation, O’Brien applauded how Gay fights through traffic and sheds blocks quickly to get back into the play.
Key Points From Micah Gay’s All State Preps Evaluation:
- Excellent start to the highlights, tackles in the backfield are impressive
- Excellent at fighting off blockers and beating them to the ball carrier
- Diagnoses plays quickly and once he finds the ball carrier, he attacks
With an evaluation from a national scout, it won’t be surprising if Micah sees more attention this fall. If he can maintain his burst and put on some more size, it wouldn't be surprising to see Micah making big leaps on some recruiting boards.
