Washington Football Team Hosts High School Virtual Combine on GMTM

The Washington Football Team ended a historic year in early January, after losing a nail-biter to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card round of the NFL Playoffs. But, the Washington staff isn't taking much time off after winning their NFC East-winning season.

Instead, they are shifting their focus to high school athletes as they launch the Washington Football High School Virtual Combine on GMTM.

The Washington High School Virtual Combine was created for motivated high school athletes in the D.C. Metro and surrounding areas hoping to play football at the next level. The NFL team invites athletes to record and submit videos to nine different activities ranging from position-specific drills to introductions and character challenges.

Washington becomes the third NFL team to host a Virtual Combine on GMTM. The Cleveland Browns launched their “One More Time” Senior Showcase in the fall of 2020 to help athletes in the upcoming recruiting class. The Los Angeles Rams were right behind, hosting the LA Rams High School Showcase on GMTM to create a way for athletes in California to create new film, despite having their 2020 football season postponed.

While Washington’s virtual event is targeted towards high school students in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, D.C., its reach will be nationwide. The Washington Football staff will be sharing the players’ video submissions with college programs and organizations across the country.

Washington’s quarterback, Kyle Allen, who is a frequent guest on GMTM’s live Twitch show, will be among those taking a look at the video submissions. Allen will offering his evaluations on Twitch and social media for young athletes hoping to follow in his footsteps.

Kyle Allen & Jordan Palmer Explain The Backup Quarterbacks Importance | GMTM
Jordan Palmer backed up many quarterbacks in the NFL including his own brother Carson Palmer. he shared stories of how he would help his brother and many more quarterbacks by going through schemes, gameplans, plays with them.

Below are some of the Frequently Asked Questions about the Washington Football High School Virtual Combine:

What activities are included in the Washington Football High School Virtual Combine?

The Washington Football High School Virtual Combine features 9 individual activities, demonstrating necessary skills on and off the field.

The Interview and Character Challenge allow athletes to upload videos, speaking directly with coaches. The Interview activity is a chance for athletes to tell their story, what separates them from the pack, and the impact football has had on their life. The Character Challenge, on the other hand, asks two simple questions, ‘What kind of person are you?’ and ‘What type of leader do you want to become?’

After getting to know the person, coaches want to see the player. The combine also includes six athletic activities - three cone drills and three strength tests.

The three cone drills include the 5-10-5 and L Drills, to show your speed and ability to change direction, and the Figure-8 Drill, to show how explosive you are out of a break.

The strength tests include a 165-lb Bench Press, Push Ups, and Pull Ups. A few favorites of the strength coaches who will be watching submissions around the country.

Who can submit videos to the Virtual Combine?

The Washington Football High School Virtual Combine is open to high school athletes wishing to boost their recruitment and play football in college. Whether you have high school game film or not, this event is an opportunity to impress coaches with your personality, drive, and of course, your athleticism.

In order to submit videos, you must have a GMTM profile. Click here to claim yours.

How much does the Virtual Combine cost?

Nothing. The Washington Football High School Virtual Combine is free for high school athletes with a GMTM profile.

Yes, completely free.

Connecting motivated athletes directly with college coaching staffs and making the opportunity accessible to every student-athlete is the major goal for the Washington Football Team.

Where does the Virtual Combine take place?

Anywhere! Because it is a virtual event on GMTM, you can record videos from any location and upload them to the Washington Football High School Virtual Combine on GMTM. You don’t even need a football field.

Whether you are doing cone-drills in your backyard, running routes at a local park, or recording your 40-yard dash at your high school track, just press record and you’ll be competing against the other athletes around the DMV area.

What happens to your combine videos after you submit them?

After you submit to an activity in the Virtual Combine, your video will be stored in a list exclusively for the Washington Football staff and college programs to view. They will be able to comment on your videos, so you can get real analysis from coaches watching you.

Also, every video you upload to any of GMTM’s Virtual Events is saved in your profile next to your metrics and game film. Then, coaches, recruiters, and, of course, fans can see what you’ve been up to in one place - your GMTM profile.
