More than most sports, the fundamentals of Football change greatly depending on which position you play. This means that coaching systems need to be formed for every different type of player. Football teams at both the collegiate and pro level hire specialized coaches for every position from Quarterback to Kicker.
This results in some schools putting together elite coaching staffs around developing a specific position. Over the years certain schools have consistently manufactured high-level players at specific positions. Today, let's take a look at the school that has produced the most talent at each offensive position.
Quarterbacks - Oklahoma
- Notable Players: Baker Mayfield, Sam Bradford, Josh Heupel, Jack Mildren, Kyler Murray
In the last 20 years, five Oklahoma quarterbacks have won the Heisman trophy, crowning them the best player in college football.
Head coach and Quarterback coach Lincoln Riley has been working up some serious magic over the past 2 decades. More talent at the quarterback position has come from Oklahoma than any other school by far.
The most notable player being Baker Mayfield. Mayfield is the only walk-on player ever to win the Heisman, after finishing in the top 4 both years prior. Murray and Mayfield lead the current generation of Sooner QB stars in the NFL.
Running Backs - Alabama
- Notable Players: Derrick Henry, Mark Ingram, Shaun Alexander, Najee Harris
Henry is the clear No. 1 on this list. The absolute tank of a running back is one of the most unstoppable forces in the NFL. Mark Ingram has also been a starting-caliber RB for years in the league since bringing home the Heisman while at Oklahoma.
Najee Harris’ performance in the last season has helped move him past other great Crimson Tide running backs up to No. 4 on our list.
Wide Receivers - USC
- Notable Players: Mike Williams, Dwayne Jarrett, Marquise Lee, Keyshawn Johnson
Dwayne Jarrett holds the Trojan record with 41 touchdown receptions throughout his distinguished career in southern California. Williams is not too far behind him with an impressive 30 TD catches. Johnson also made his mark while playing for USC as he was the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL draft.
Tight Ends - Miami
- Notable Players: Jeremy Shockey, Bubba Franks, Greg Olsen, Jimmy Graham
Few Tight Ends have a resume like that of Jeremy Shockey, the Hurricane legend has won a national championship, two Super Bowls, and was an All-American. Greg Olsen recently hung up his cleats after a very impressive 14 year NFL career. And Jimmy Graham is currently representing the long history of Tight Ends to come out of Coral Gables.
Offensive Linemen - Alabama
- Notable Players: Dwight Stephenson, Barrett Jones, John Hannah, Chris Samuel
Is it surprising to see Alabama on this list for a second time? Not at all, the Crimson Tide has been the gold standard for success in college football for the last 20 years.
But what is interesting is that none of the linemen on this list are products of the Nick Saban era. Hannah, a two-time All-American, was inducted into both the College and the Pro Football Hall of Fame. According to Paul Bryant, Hannah is the greatest Lineman he has ever coached.
