Coaches almost always head straight to the volume and shut it off when if it is on a recruits film... or worse, they just exit out of the video completely. And I don't blame them.
Coaching is a job and everything away from the team is done in a quiet office, an airport, or at home with the family. They don't need to hear Meek Mill blasting out of their iPhone speakers when they click on the video you sent them.
Here are a few example of what coaches and college scouts have to say about music added to athlete's highlights:
"Don't let it be a distraction from the talent on display on your film."
The music behind your clips may affect your recruiting. Don't let it be a distraction from the talent on display on your film.

"Your recruiting video... should display your best clips in the first 30 seconds. Avoid music, special effects..."
Your recruiting video should be somewhere between 3-5 minutes long and should display your best clips in the first 30 seconds. Avoid music, special effects, and free throws! Make sure it’s high quality and add your contact info to the video... @ppgirlsbball

"Just a suggestion as a Coach that has done recruiting. We don't care for the music."
Just a suggestion as a Coach that has done recruiting. We don't care for the music. We want to see what you can do. Make sure your biggest/best plays are first. Even if they're mid season. Show highlights vs. your toughest competition. Short & quick no delays between clip's

"I’m a No Music fan - every coach is different"
I need music to drown out parents yelling at refs or other players, or just making stupid comments in general. I have some great videos im saving up to make a video of parents voices on recruiting videos.

"Am I the only coach that enjoys a little music on a recruiting video?"
Am I the only coach that enjoys a little music on a recruiting video? Your song choice tells me a little bit more about you IMO.

👻 The Coach you ghost now may be the voice you want advocating for you later.
🎶 Highlight film shows us your ability. The music in it shows us your maturity.
📱Every word/picture you post reveals part of your character, and if you can be trusted.
After all, no matter what division you are trying to play, coaches are busy and any time spent with your highlights or on your profile is a blessing.
How you portray yourself can say a lot more than what your stats will offer them... your highlight videos can also show what type of teammate, student, and person you are working to become.
