What is the thing that has driven the $90 billion Sports industry?
Talent
Without talent, Sports organizations won’t win, engage fans, or attract the next generation of athletes.
Our company, GMTM, has collaborated with over 100 elite sports organizations across 25 different sports in the past three years, helping them develop the talents of athletes aged 6 to 50.
Through our work, we have found that understanding the importance of talent development and management is essential for sports organizations to remain competitive to sustain success.
To achieve this, organizations need a robust Talent Pipeline with accessible Talent Pathways. This is the critical work our team and platform focus on when working with organizations.
A Talent Pipeline is the process of identifying and developing athletes from a young age, creating awareness, and building relationships with athletes while helping them develop the skills they need to succeed. This process should be tailored to the athletes' needs and optimized for their best experience and most efficient value-creation.
The Talent Pipeline includes three types of athletes: Recruits, Development, and Elite.
- Recruits are any external athletes who an organization is attempting to build a relationship with. Organizations want to create awareness and access through recruiting efforts for these athletes.
- Development athletes are an organization's existing athlete pool who require support and investment in order to develop into elite players.
- Elite athletes create all the value for an organization and its affiliates, they must be supported and enabled to maximize value to retain.
Talent Pathways are the specific points in an athlete's journey with an organization that allow them to showcase and improve their skills. These pathways should be tailored to the individual needs of each athlete and provide opportunities for growth and development.
It is essential for sports organizations to understand the different types of athletes and how to support and develop each one. By identifying and developing the right athletes, organizations can sustain a competitive advantage that will drive success on and off the field over a long period of time.
